Professor Longhair - Live in London

Na początku lat 60-tych występował w nowoorleańskim klubie First Bass. W 1971 r. występował ze Snooksem Eaglinem, wystąpił z Dr. Johnem (Mac Rebennackiem) w programie telewizyjnym i stał się gwiazdą festiwalu jazzowego w Nowym Orleanie. Rok później wytwórnia Atlantic wydała album z jego nagraniami z lat 1949-1953. Występował też w Londynie, po raz pierwszy poza Stanami Zjednoczonymi. W latach 1971-1974 współpracował z Dr. Johnem. Brał udział w wielu festiwalach także w Europie m.in. w Montreux (1973). W 1975 r. występował w audycji „Blues Piano Orgy" nadawanej przez jedną z nowoorleańskich rozgłośni radiowych.
Zm. 30.01.1980 w Nowym Orleanie (Luizjana).

Professor Longhair - Rock 'n' Roll Gumbo

PROFESSOR LONGHAIR (prawdziwe nazwisko HENRY ROELAND BYRD) wokalista i pianista urodzony 19.12.1918 w Bogalusa (Luizjana).
Najpierw uczył się grać na gitarze i na początku lat 30-tych grywał na ulicach w Nowym Orleanie. Swój styl gry na fortepianie ukształtował pod wpływem Tutsa Washingtona. W połowie lat 30-tych występował z własnym zespołem m.in. w Nowojorskim Cotton Club i Lincoln Theatre. W 1937 r. występował z Championem Jackiem Dupree. W latach 1942-1943 służył w wojsku, a później grywał w podrzędnych lokalach. W 1949 r. utworzył Professor Longhair and the Four Hairs Combo, z którym występował w nowoorleańskim klubie Caldonia Inn. Pierwszych nagrań dokonał w tym samym roku dla wytwórni Star Talent z zespołem Professor Longhair and His Shuffling Hungarians. Także w 1949 r. nagrywał dla wytwórni Mercury z zespołem Blues Jumpers oraz dla takich firm jak Federal i Wasco, występował z Dave Bartholomew Band. W latach 50-tych jego płyty wydawały wytwórnie Atlantic, Ebb, Ron i Rip, ale żadna, chociaż wiele cieszyło się dużą popularnością w szafach grających na Południu, nie weszła na ogólnokrajową listę rhythm and bluesowych bestsellerów.
